Verification: live face check
AfroDatin verification is a live selfie video matched against the member's profile photos, not an email confirmation or a document upload. Verified members carry a badge and you can filter to see only them. When comparing another platform, ask specifically what earns their badge — the answer separates platforms where fakes are rare from platforms where they aren't.
Messaging: free after a match
Once two members like each other, the chat opens with no subscription. Text, photos, voice notes and read receipts are included on the free tier. Ask any alternative one question: can two free users hold a full conversation? If the answer is no, the free tier is a shop window.
Pricing: optional, monthly, self-cancellable
Premium adds unlimited likes, advanced filters, profile boost, seeing who liked you, and a badge. It's month to month, and you cancel it yourself in account settings. When comparing, check three things: the cheapest real monthly price, whether the cancellation path is in-app, and whether the advertised price is a discounted multi-month plan.
Filters: origin, language, faith, tribe, intent
Alongside age and distance, AfroDatin filters on country of origin as distinct from current location, language, faith, tribe or ethnic background, and relationship intent. That distinction matters for diaspora members — someone in Houston whose family is from Enugu is findable both ways.
Calling: voice and video inside the app
Voice and video calls run inside AfroDatin, so you can see and hear someone before ever exchanging a phone number. That's both a relationship feature for long-distance couples and a safety feature: anyone unwilling to appear live on camera has told you something important.
Moderation: a human, within 24 hours
Reports go to a person, not only a filter, and are reviewed within 24 hours. Scams, fake profiles and harassment are removed without warnings. Ask alternatives for their stated review window — a platform that measures it will tell you the number.
Where AfroDatin may not be the right fit
If you want casual hookups, this isn't the place — the community skews strongly toward serious relationships and members say so on their profiles. If you're looking for a very specific, tiny niche with no African or diaspora connection at all, a general mainstream app will simply have more people. We'd rather you knew that up front.
How to compare fairly
Sign up free on both. Set identical filters — same city, same age range, same intent. Count the verified, recently-active profiles each returns. Send two messages on each and see how many humans reply within 48 hours. That test tells you more in a week than any review site.
