To get a verified badge, a member records a short live selfie which is matched against the photos on their profile. It takes under a minute and it's free. Because the check is live, a stolen photo set doesn't pass — the person has to be physically there. You can filter Discover to show verified members only, and we'd recommend doing exactly that.
See and hear them before you meet
Voice and video calls run inside AfroDatin, so you never have to hand over a phone number to find out whether someone is real. A five-minute video call answers questions that fifty messages can't. If a match keeps finding reasons not to appear on camera, that alone is enough to stop.
One-tap blocking and reporting
Block or report anyone from their profile or the chat, in a single tap. Blocking is instant and silent — they aren't told. Reports reach a human moderator who reviews them within 24 hours. Confirmed scams, fake profiles and harassment are removed permanently, with no warnings and no second chances.
You control who can reach you
Choose who can message you, hide your profile when you want a break, and unmatch without explanation at any time. Nobody on AfroDatin is entitled to your attention, and stepping away from a conversation needs no justification.
The rules that keep you safest
Never send money, airtime, gift cards or crypto to someone you haven't met — no exception has ever turned out well. Keep conversations in the app until you trust the person; scammers push hard to move you to WhatsApp or Telegram where there's no moderation. Video call before meeting. Tell a friend where you're going. Meet in a public place the first two or three times, and arrange your own transport home.
How romance scams actually work
The pattern barely varies: intense affection within days, a story that explains why they can't video call, a crisis that needs money, then escalating requests once you've paid. Your data and your privacy
Your exact location is never shown to other members — distance is approximate. You choose what appears on your profile, and you can delete your account permanently from settings, which removes your profile, photos, messages and uploads rather than merely hiding them.
If something goes wrong
Report first, then block — reporting before blocking gives moderators the conversation they need to act. If money is involved, report it to your local police or fraud authority as well; timely reports occasionally recover funds. Our support team can be reached from the app and will work with you.
