Suggest it early, but not too early
Once you've swapped a few good messages, suggest a short video call. It confirms the person is real and saves weeks of texting someone you'd never actually click with in person.
Sort your light and your background
Face a window or a lamp so you're well lit, prop your phone at eye level, and pick a tidy, quiet spot. You don't need a studio — you just need them to see and hear you clearly.
Keep the first one short
Twenty to thirty minutes is plenty for a first video date. It keeps the energy up, leaves you both wanting more, and takes the pressure off. You can always plan a longer one next time.
Stay private until you trust them
Use the in-app call so you don't have to hand over your personal number. Don't show anything that gives away your home or workplace, and never feel pressured into anything you're not comfortable with.
